Every year, millions of dollars’ worth of financial assets are turned over to the states as unclaimed property: from uncashed checks, shares of stock, dormant bank accounts, mutual fund accounts, and more. We would all like to see more of that property remain with its rightful owner.
That’s why we’ve created the Keep What’s Yours video series.
Keep What’s Yours - Unclaimed property video series
Watch VideosDesigned for the general public, this series highlights the specific actions individuals can take to keep their financial accounts active and avoid having their property turned over to a state as unclaimed. Most people have no idea that their financial assets could become flagged as unclaimed and then escheated. They don’t know that even if they still have the stock certificate, their shares could be escheated to and subsequently sold by a state without their knowledge or consent.
We’ve created these videos to speak in plain terms, without any unclaimed property jargon and we’re sharing the basic rules and information applicable for all states.
Our first six videos cover the following topics:
- Introduction to unclaimed property and why it’s important
- Types of property that are subject to unclaimed property requirements
- Why “contact” is so important and why you need to open your mail
- One family’s real-life story of escheatment
- How to keep your stock accounts active
- How to keep you bank accounts active
Be sure to share the Keep What’s Yours video series with everyone: your friends, family, employees, customers, neighbors, parents, and children. We need your help to get the word out.
More videos will be added, so bookmark this page and stay tuned!
